Tell us something about your apprenticeship experience

What did you learn?

  • I learned how quality assurance technicians operate (both hands on and paperwork) to the point I am aiming to work as quality assurance technician in the near future.
  • How recipes are developed.
  • How to tackle both production and employee problems.

What were the benefits you think you reaped from undertaking an apprenticeship?

On my placement I realised that although my course mainly revolves around testing and ensuring that food products meet their standards, there is much more going on in background. When taking into consideration a large food and beverage industries, one has to keep in mind all the blood, sweat and tears that goes in preparing the food.

This is what made me really appreciate the hard work that goes in producing our daily products.

And what about your Erasmus+ mobility experience?

My Erasmus+ mobility experience took place in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands between 28 January and 11 February 2017.

What did you learn?

  • Traditional Dutch snack cooking (krokets and frikandel)
  • Puff pastry cooking
  • Potato chips making
  • Bread backing
  • Cheese making

What were the benefits you think you reaped from going on an Erasmus+ Mobility Experience?

We had first-hand experience working with professional food technologists and were able to use heavy equipment that are very similar to the machines found in the food and beverage industry.

Any great memories you’d like to share with us?

  • There was a local ‘Built your own burger’ restaurant that we liked so much we frequently dinned there.
  • On one day it snowed and we ended up playing a snowball fight.

I would say; different, inspiring and cold J

Tell us one random/fun fact about yourself:
